Common questions

Useful answers before you book.

What happens at a sports therapy appointment?

Your therapist will discuss the problem and your goals, complete an appropriate physical assessment, explain the working findings and agree next steps. Care may include hands-on treatment, movement guidance and rehabilitation exercises.

Do I need a GP referral?

You can usually self-refer. If your symptoms suggest that medical assessment or investigation is needed, you will be advised to contact an appropriate healthcare professional.

Where is the clinic?

BDYMAP is inside Muscleworks Gym, Sterling House, Langston Road, Loughton IG10 3TS.

Is sports therapy only for sportspeople?

No. It can help active people at different levels, including gym users, runners, team-sport players and people returning to exercise.

What is the difference between sports therapy and sports massage?

Sports therapy centres on assessment and a wider rehabilitation plan. Sports massage is a hands-on session that may support recovery or short-term symptom management. If you have a new or persistent problem, sports therapy is often the better first booking.

Will treatment be painful?

Treatment should be explained and adapted to you. Consent is ongoing, and you can ask to change or stop any technique at any time.

Can I keep training?

That depends on the problem. Complete rest is not always necessary; an assessment can help decide what to modify, what to continue and how to progress.

When should I seek urgent medical help?

Call 999 for a life-threatening emergency. Seek urgent assessment for serious trauma, severe or rapidly worsening symptoms, sudden weakness, or back pain with new bladder or bowel disturbance or numbness around the groin. NHS 111 can advise when help is urgent but not life-threatening.
